There are a lot of Colleges that have successful Baseball Team, However there is a College that stand up over all others by their achievements.
The University of Southern California baseball team, the Trojans, is indubitably one of the most prosperous college baseball teams of all time. Above ninety-five of the college baseball players who have made it into the Major League played for the University of Southern California.
The University of Southern California has also appeared in twenty-one of the College World Series (up until 2003) and has won the most games in the series too with its record of seventy.
The Trojans are one of the oldest college baseball teams. They played their foremost college baseball game on 23rd November 1889 on the university campus. Sadly the college baseball team lost this game and this may account for the truth that there are no recorded games until 20th February 1892. This time the Trojans team won against the Woodbury Business College, 14-3. The Trojans had 20 players on their college baseball squad that season and complete it undefeated over 6 games.
The accompanying year the Trojans played ten games during the college baseball season. Regardless, the USC baseball team appeared to have not played very much over the next four years with only three college baseball games really being recorded.
Between 1898 and 1902 the Trojans college baseball team suffered from one bad season after other. In 1902 this changed with the coming of pitcher Rube Waddell who was one of the stars of college baseball at the time and went on to become a Hall of Fame inductee after serving on four Major League teams. There is no disbelieve that he was responsible for the upturn in fortune of the Trojans college baseball team.
The number of college baseball games played each time steadily grew until the Trojans played 12 in 1905. This was also the year that the Trojans played their first international college baseball game against Waseda of Japan.
This opened the Americans vision to the fact that college baseball in Japan was flourishing because Waseda won the game 13-6. Since 1905 there were at least 10 games played each season that the Trojans had a baseball team, not counting the war years. College baseball in Japan is quiet an very popular sport and baseball itself is the number one team sport in Japan.
The fortunes of the Trojans college baseball team were very mixed in the pre-World War 1 years and the team was even abolished for a season during 1913. This was to enable the college to focus on track and field sports. Of course the war years led to a refuse in all sports, including baseball, but the Trojans college baseball team was fully re-instated in 1920.
The University of Southern Californaia baseball team went from power to strength and was at last rewarded by becoming a member of a college baseball meeting in 1927 and they havent looked back since.
Well, that's the end of my article. I hope you will be able to use this information. And Remember who is the Best Baseball College Team. |
